i been revisitin' the soundtrack for the last couple of hours and honestly i think i wanted to hear somethin' along the lines of the chronic and even the chronic 2001 so bad, that i couldn't even really see where dre was tryin' to go with the soundtrack

now this ain't to say that everythin' that's "new" or "different" is great or good but i really think dre was tryin' to go bring somethin' new to the game again with this soundtrack because he abandons the prominent funky sounds that were present on the chronic and 2001 but then again, this is a soundtrack and it's been 16 years since the chronic 2001 and 24 years since the chronic :mjcry:

but i say all that to say, while i don't love the album, i can appreciate that dre really came with somethin' "new" that i don't think i could really appreciate because my heart and mind was still stuck on the chronic (always will be too, because the 1st chronic is 1 of the best albums of any genre of music!) and chronic 2001 too

with that said, for a soundtrack, this was ok. i think what i have to remember is that this isn't a "dre" album, but a soundtrack that was influenced by the n.w.a. movie for the most part, so it's not gon have the same vibe and feel that an actual "album" gon have and it's been 16 years since dre's last musical offerin' was premiered. a lot has changed and if he would've come back with the same sound for this soundtrack that he's used in the past, well that would've just been tired and weak. he came back with somethin' new and while i can honestly say it hasn't really impressed me right off the bat like all of his old material (aside from dre presents aftermath) i can respect that it seems like dre was really try to come with somethin' new with this soundtrack

sonically its dope. i liked it.

but its such a far stretch away from what Dre is known for..i just cant accept it. i would have rather he dropped an actual compilation that maybe he had 2 or 3 verses on as opposed to him rapping on all the tracks and being indecipherable half of the time because it sounds nothing like him.

Compton was overall dope. Anderson Paak was definitely the star of the new school of artists. Kendrick and Eminem were definitely brought their skills to godly levels. Snoop Dogg, Game, Xhibit were hungry as if they were trying to be put on. All the collaborations in production was solid. We FINALLY got a Dre and Preemo collaboration. The ONLY TRUE NEGATIVE that I can say is Dr. Dre himself. I partially wished he wasn't on there at all.
