@88m3 he must be stopped, he’s engaging in class warfare :damn:

What Mamdani is doing isn't productive and NYs problems can't be solved by taxes. The divisive fear mongering is the same shyt Trump and Republicans engage in and it's gross. People have enough to be worried about, uncertainty, and generally things to be upset about right now.

We already have endless regulations and taxes and it hasn't moved the needle in the direction people here desire. Democrats or whatever these people are need to focus on actually governing, changing the work culture of city/state agencies so they're effective again, and improving the quality of life for all residents not just fun employed white people.

You know I don't like extreme wealth, the empty towers that have disfigured the city's skyline, and a lot of shyt going on but there needs to a grounded rational in what they're doing. 500 million dollars is nothing and the 5 million threshold isn't well defined and it's frankly too low and if it doesn't increase supply of what still for many aren't affordable homes it's pointless. They've built countless new units and displaced countless people and the rent continues to increase and home prices remain extremely high. On the other sides labor and materials are extremely complicated and expensive... on top of that the regulations and laws. I'm pretty on top of my game and it's really hard... I can only imagine the despair the average person experiences to get anything accomplished.

Thanks for this perspective. I’m not on the ground in New York, so I can only judge based on what I see, and I know that alone will never paint the full picture.

I do understand how development in big cities tends to go. In LA, it felt like the only “apartments” being built were $4k/month studios, which are nowhere near affordable for most people.

And from what I’ve seen, the efforts aimed at addressing homelessness simply haven’t been enough in scale. I’ve seen housing projects cost multiple millions of dollars and take 1–3 years to complete, only to house maybe 70–100 families at most.

While that’s still meaningful, it often feels like a drop in the bucket compared to the level of demand and urgency.
