Who are yall looking forward to seeing tonight? I've seen James Young, who is going to Kentucky, play live. When he's on, he looks like he ready for the league. But he's streaky. In the H.S. playoffs he only dropped 18 and they lost. But he teamed sucked. They had a Chinese point guard (no :duck:) This dude was like 5 ft. But we'll see if he shines tonight. Dude from the burbs so I don't know about his toughness either (no dis to those who live in the burbs but yall know what I mean).

No...we don't. So "the hood" is an indicator of mental toughness now?
:heh:

I'm checking into the thread for Rondae Jefferson and Aaron Gordon. Not really big on paying attention to kids being recruited, but once they commit.

Can't wait to see these cats take care of business tonight.

I wanna see if Andrew and Jabari are gonna go at each other. And i wanna see what the Harrison twins games look like and if one is a clear cut better prospect than the other.

Street ball builds a whole different type of toughness. Inner city public school basketball is a different brand as well in terms of physicality.

Street ball builds the type of toughness that no one wants to deal with after a certain age. A lot of the greatest players are not even from the inner-city, but if they are, they usually attended private schools or were pretty sheltered.

Growing up in a large metropolitan area has advantages (more competition), but that isn't synonymous with streetball, which is look at as sort of a joke.

I didn't say inner city = streetball. Look at my statement again

The point I'm trying to make is that different styles of basketball bring a different type of mentality. Is it for everybody, no. For example, I've gone to suburban basketball games, AAU, and these cats hardly ever go in for a layup or dunk. It's moving the ball around until you get somebody open. If that's your brand, then that's going to be totally different then what I've seen in inner city schools.

Now, does that mean if you go to a private or suburban school, you're not going to be tough? No, that's not what I'm trying to communicate. Shane Battier is an example, of a tough suburban player who went to a private school. But in Young's case, I do question it because of the system he was raised in. That's all I'm saying. You make valid points though.

No no, a great majority of the league is an example. Listen, even players who were born in "the hood" and grew up in "the projects," playing "streetball" or "inner-city" ball usually end up going to a private school when it comes time to hone their serious basketball skills.

You're attempting to equate a looser and more physical style of play with mental toughness. It just doesn't match up though.

This is one of them "oh, he grew up in New York, he must be tough" kind of conversations. The FOH sir.
