Personal GOAT album IMO. Incredible combination of production, rhymes, guests, and musical elements.

First, the GOAT hip-hop track:

Arguably the Soul Brother's single best work on the boards with all these fukkin layered samples going nuts:

PR working those Ohio Players samples and CL coming on the smooth tip:

and then they came through and dropped a remix that killed the original:

Lots and lots of incredible moments all over this album; the chorus cuts on On & On, the frantic drums + horns on the Large Pro co-produced Act Like You Know, Straighten It Out, PR abusing the shyt outta those vocals something serious from Strictly for the Ladies on It's Like That (O O O O O O OH ITS LIKE THAT NAOW?!?!) Heavy D on The Basement...

No album has shaped my music tastes more than this record.

One of the BEST albums of all time. If I was on a deserted island with no other music, this is what I would be playing non stop

This album symbolized an era for me, turning 14 at the time getting ready for high school. I remember that summer meeting this girl downtown Newark, who was waiting at the bus stop, while I was copping the latest Ron G tape from one of the African bootlegers nearby. I didn't have my walkman with me so I asked her can I listen to some of it on hers. 13 years later, she would become my wife. Parties/club scene were on fire, going across the river (to NYC) and sneaking into Club 2000, Muse, Homebase, the Rink in Bergenfield, etc. Being the youngest dude in my little 5 man crew (everybody else were 3 to 7 years older) heading to Greekfest in VA for the first time. Still living out my hoop dreams, balling in summer tournaments, but my attention was elsewhere. Around this time, I was just getting my feet wet in the streets. I remember my man copping the black AC with the beige interior and my other dude copping the Benz 190E. They took some of the paper they were getting on the streets and opened up a car wash around the way. shyt was crazy. Cars would be lined up to the the middle of the NEXT block almost every day. They had the strippers out there reeling the cars in, while having the real workers in the back fixing up what girls mess up. That was enough motivation to make me step my game up to the next level. And while all of this was going on, I remember vividly songs like Skinz, Straighten It Out, For Pete Sake, The Basement, Soul Brother 1, etc being the backdrop of that summer. Also, TROY definitely resonated with me because a few months prior (November of 91) I had just lost my Aunt (whom I was close with) to breast cancer and a childhood friend who got shot up (top of the year that January). So whenever I hear that song, I automatically think of them. In retrospect, it was a fun and crazy time. Summer 92 will forever be one of my favorite summer ever!

Anyone else feel like Pete's legacy kind of gets overlooked today, compared to other legends like Premo and RZA? Pete was on fire throughout the 90s and proved he could do multiple types of hip hop, and other genres. But today when many rap cats discuss their favorite producers it revolves around RZA, Premo, Dilla, Pimp C, etc.

I feel the same way about Q-Tip. Amazing producer/engineer who still makes heat (seriously, Nas should make him exec producer of his next album IMO...) but you never hear him discussed
