Melle Mel on Eminem: He's top 5 cause he's white, if he was black he'd be average

Em is one of my personal favorites obviously and I would not have him top 5 on any overall/'objective' all time list, that's too high. Top 20 at absolute worst all things considered IMO, more around 10-15 for me.

But Em > Busta on several levels, you ain't gotta bring sales into it really. Melle Mel too while we're at it.

It’s on site with Trevor but you out your damn mind.

That nikka has had a major impact in every decade of hip hop since LONS first hit.

He set several trends, was on so many legendary records (was one of the main reasons they were legendary), and he probably has the most disrespected catalog in hip hop history.

The singles were large but always paled in comparison to the album cuts.

That’s where he really shined.

Not negating that. I'm one of the few on here that has campaigned for ELE to be acknowledged as at least a really good album if not a borderline classic. His impact cannot be denied.

But as someone who listened and still listens to both very frequently, I would give Em the edge in a lot of catagories artistically.

Top of my head, avoiding singles and obvious picks, favorite song by each right now:

I love both of these songs, the latter is seamless rapping, song writing, story telling and something that hits me on an emotional level. Redman is not only one of his main influences, but a much better comparison because without the white privliage, super pristine catalog or particularly substanative subject matter (i'd say Em has more), he is still pretty consistently thrown out there in top 20, sometimes top 10's.
