As far as a “hip hop city”, historically, Philadelphia’s importance can hardly be overstated.

The four elements: graffiti, DJ, emcee, breakdancing.

graffiti was the first, started in 1965 in Philadelphia with Cornbread - dude who later spray painted an elephant - so phillys the foundational cornerstone

And I have deep respect for Memphis og’s like DJ Spanish Fly “Cement Shoes”
