Konami's community manager has shared his thoughts on Xbox One's launch and hinted at what we should expect to see in upcoming months.
Adam Bhatti spoke to IGN earlier today about whether we may get a chance to experience MGSIV on the Xbox One along with a new remake of MGS1 exclusively. He also spoke candidly about how Konami feels about how Microsoft has been slow to start up this gen.
"We are going to have to consider it sometime but right now due to the weakness of the Xbox One, it's proving difficult. You see, MGS IV was developed with the Cell architecture in mind and while the Xbox One's setup is faster, it's difficult and cumbersome. A remake may be possible but we'd have to consider dropping it to 720P like how MGSV:GZ is. Don't take this as a yes the game is coming out, we are exploring our possibilities. We need to see if it's worth it."
“In order to create breathtaking visual games, you need to have balance."
While MGSV:GZ is running in 720P for the Xbox One, Konami's community manager didn't hesitate to tell us this: "We've tried contacting Microsoft head engineers months in advance to inquire about the R&D going in the Xbox One but it was hard to reach them. We finally did speak to Larry Hyrb once through his PS4 by sending him a party invite, we see that he really loves Knack."
IGN asked Adam, "What about MGS1, that should be easily made right?"
"That’s a real big question," He explained. "In order to [make remakes] it takes so much balancing to make all the technologies work with each other, and then you have to bear in mind that such huge resources are put behind the Xbox's OS that it bloats the dev tools. It’s a huge undertaking. Originally we just had everything (For MGSV) working and then the team refused to add 900P resolution to work perfectly with everything else in the game, so.. we kind of gave up on that endeavor. It was too arduous. The Xbox One has clearly been technically inferior to the PS4 and we tried to tell Microsoft that prior to launch to make some changes but they were hard to find. Larry's abscene on the Xbox live twitter and his presence on PSN streaming Knack is certainly befuddling."
IGN then asked, "What about the power of the cloud?"
Adam chuckled and said, "If the cloud was so great, we'd deliver it straight to the platform sans any disc. In my part of town it's always sunny."
IGN will bring you more on this in the coming months.
MGSV Coming to Xbox One with MGS1 remake?
That would be wack if it came out gimped.
