This argument would kill every sample in Hip Hop cause most samples are from artists that passed away. You hear em singing in the background and they aren't even mentioned as being 'featured'. What's the difference between this MJ 'feature' and an Otis Redding sample huh? They are both artists who passed away that never met any of the rappers that sampled them. The only difference is when they passed away and the artist calling it a 'feature' or just naming them randomly in the credits. Drake would've been better off not calling it a 'feature' and just naming it as a sample in the credits.
:dahell: how are they the same? the MJ sample was UNRELEASED. so the first time the world is hearing it is on a drake song and not related in any way to what he had in mind when he was writing. whereas with a sample it comes from a piece of music that has already been released and that the world has had the opportunity to listen to. you can go to a record store and listen to an otis redding sample's original context. cant do that with this MJ vocal track

Who fukking cares. The estate, IE the "mother" of his "children" as well as the children, make the decisions. That's whose opinion matters. I'm gonna assume Drake went to the estate and asked permission, and likely gave up all publishing in order to secure the track. The estate benefits. Good for them. Similar to how Kendrick had to go to Michael's son and play King Kunta just because of the "Anne are you ok" line; he got approval from the son/estate, and likely also gave up a lot of publishing.

Going to the rest of the family to ask about this is just a corny attempt to once again create drama and generate money off MJ's name while sowing discord and chatty patty shyt.
That's where you're wrong, they don't run his estate.

Mike is one of the few artists in the major label system that owned his masters. He controlled them.
The Jackson family controls nothing. The only one in the will is his mother. His mom gets a monthly payout and the kids have a trust.
Some of his brothers and sisters have claimed that the will is fake and have tried to remove Branca and McClain as executors of the estate.
All of this was in the news.
Same with the 10 album deal with Sony, that was in the news too.
The part about hating Sony was from the book his bodyguards wrote called Remember The Time, which is a great read.
The part about him hiding his music is putting two and two together.
Mike and all of his collaborators have spoken at length publicly about the many unreleased songs he recorded.
The estate signed that 10 album deal with Sony but have not come forth with that material. Their job is to generate income for the estate, so if they had the music, they would put it out. They were obligated by that contract. The album they did oversee had songs with fake MJ vocals, what does that tell you?
Once it discovered that the estate doesnt have the music, the contract has probably been voided.
Not too many people know this, but the estate sold Mike's half of Sony/ATV back to Sony against Mike's wishes (also in the news).
The estate probably sold it back in exchange for getting that record contract voided.
Mike swore to never sell his half because of the billions in revenue it provides which creates generational wealth.
Mike's downfall started with the purchase of the ATV catalog. The cacs in the industry have hated him ever since for that and the other power moves he made.
Sony tried their best to get the catalog from him while he was alive but he refused.
Thanks for mentioning that book man, I have to check it out.

Also yeah I know they sold his half of Sony/ATV back to Sony which was stupid but at the same time to say he hid the music is a reach. Maybe they are other reasons the music is not out but I don't think he hid it like that. Latoya even came out and said she found some hard drives with his music on them and WIll.I.Am even has some unreleased music with him so with that said you saying he hid the music is an assumption. Not a bad one but an assumption none the less.

With that said I wonder why they haven't put out any more of the music when they wanted to do so for profit.

MJ sounded washed on that Drake track, it’s painful to hear

Don’t know what the fukk Drake’s camp was thinking with that
fukk if the song is good... that’s Guaranteed millions of Streams nikka. Yall act like y’all dont have a basic understanding of how the music industry works in 2018

It sucks from a music fan standpoint but put yourself in the shoes of an executive worried about the bottom line.

Is it a reach?
He left Sony after fulfilling his contract.
He did not re-sign.
They kept pressuring him for his half of the catalog.
They sabotaged his last album. Wouldn't even greenlight a second video.
Do you think he would be okay with Sony making money off of him in the event of his death?
Again, he owned his masters. He could do whatever he wanted with them.

Like I said though his sisters found some and even Will I Am has some songs. There could be some logical explanation as to why they haven't released another album.

I mean I'm not completely ruling out what you're saying cause I know he didn't like them but I'm just saying. There is a chance he didn't plan for this before he died and there is some other explanation as to why they haven't done another album. I mean they did let Drake get this song from one of his old demos so I'm sure the estate could have more.
