*Contrary to what N.O.R.E. claims, Michael Jordan doesn’t have a dislike of rap, the sports icon’s rep says.
N.O.R.E. raised more than a few eyebrows recently when a video surfaced of him detailing Jordan’s presence at a Def Jam Christmas party during an interview with Rap Radar. According to The Source, the Jordan’s anti-rap screed included dissing rappers Method Man and Redman and telling fellow partygoers, “F**k rap.”
“I seen him shut Redman down at a Def Jam Christmas party,” N.O.R.E. said. “We were all sitting there waiting to speak to Michael Jordan. Nig*as said, ‘Yo, Redman and Method Man is here.’ [MJ] said, ‘F*ck rap.’ I seen the nig*a say that…Quote me. I believe it was Redman and Method Man, and I’m to the side, so I can directly hear his voice. He was like, ‘F*ck rap.’ “
N.O.R.E. went on to state that Jordan would only speak with Jay Z at the party as he blew off the other rappers in the process.
“That sh*t hurt me,” The “Superthug” emcee admitted. “Def Jam Christmas party, Mariah Carey hosting and sh*t like that. He only spoke to Hov. That’s without a doubt.”
Jordan’s alleged lack of love for rappers stands in contrast to the longstanding appreciation and respect rappers have shown him over the years in song or with wearing his Jordan brand apparel.
N.O.R.E.’s comments were disputed by basketball legend’s rep, Estee Portnoy, who stated tat the entertainer’s account of Jordan’s conduct and actions at the party was just not true — telling TMZ Sports,
“MJ wasn’t at this party, doesn’t know N.O.R.E., and is a fan of ALL music,” Portnoy told TMZ Sports while emphasizing that Jordan never dissed Method Man and Redman and has ties with other rhymesayer.
“Drake is in his brand, and Nelly is a partner of his with the Charlotte Hornets,” she added.
