I can't stand the sound of her voice
I also can't believe people still make a living off of political comedy
Who wants to spend 30-60 minutes a day being reminded of how awful American politics are?

Surprisingly many, a like minded person making smarmy jokes about people you also don't like is a tride and true formula.

I mean you would also think the comedians who do this nightly/weekly would try and think of a new format.women think pointing out the obvious is funny. 52 seconds in and everything she thinks is funny is just her literally describing things.
And I haven't seen the model really critiqued like this so I thought it was funny.

Also feels a bit exploitative... her, John Oliver, Trevor Noah largely just play off of their audiences fears and prejudices and make money complaining about all the awfulness of the govt w/o doing anything about it. Maintaining a constant level of outrage is exhausting

Yeah I agree. I didn't know political humor was her main thing. Is it? Her stand up special was mostly observational stuff not politics.
I think she has a Jon Stewart type show on Netflix. My wife watches it. From what I heard she just complained about Trump and the GOP for 30 minutes. Not how I want to spend my evening

that's the mainstream news media in a nutshell as well.
the news is in the business of pushing stories, that's it. there are billions of people in the world and billions of things happening as we speak. some good things, some bad things, some completely inconsequential things... but the news will push whatever stories they can and only focus on what they want to because
a) they want clicks/ratings
b) they want to feed their narrative
and of course, sometimes they will even exaggerate or create their own stories... because why not. the better the story, the more attention they will get. doesn't matter if they have to retract a week later, the damage is already done.
cnn and fox news are the same, just in reverse. they both want their audiences to feel like victims and be outraged at the other side 24/7. their goal is to make their audience angry and passionate... because that's what keeps them afloat. there's no money in logical, grounded interpretation of events anymore. it's all extreme takes now.
