Change title to libreoffice and you'll have yourself a better thread.

That said as a advocate open/liberoffice user:

1. macros/visual basic integration w/ excel
2. better power point integration with video and themes
3. more built in label templates with microsoft office
4. better integration with legacy and proprietary apps with microsoft vs open/libreoffice

If you want basic/ somewhat advanced tool that's free, openoffice/libreoffice is the shyt. I use it at work, cause the job can't scrounge up enough office licenses.
I encourage all my businesses customers to use it rather than spend 200 on microsoft office. But once they get to talking about integration, there's no choice.

A wider user base. This may seem stupid but even though LibreOffice (and not OpenOffice that is now owned by Apache) is great, once you get to share files with clients and/or colleagues, it becomes a pain because of conflicts between both softwares. You may have (slight) differences in the way your word or powerpoint documents are displayed (which can be annoying for printing for example), in the functions and/or formulas in your sheets (that can simply be erased with the result simply written as is) etc. Nonetheless, for low-level work, it is definitely the software to use honestly.

I believe Libre uses OpenOffice's code, however OpenOffice cannot use Libre's code. And the race to secure a competitive edge seems to lead to a lot of the buggy behavior. OpenOffice seems more stable.

You may be right, I dont know the specifics. I talk about LibreOffice because I thought it was a thread about free vs proprietary softwares

It is, I was just pointing a possible reason for the conflicts you're having with Libre. OpenOffice seems to have less issues when its files are converted or saved in Microsoft Office format.

Openoffice/Libreoffice is free, Microsoft Office isn't (legally).

Other than that, it's whatever. If you save docs in the right format you should rarely have issues opening them in Word.

I use Microsoft office literally everyday. I have learned so much about it in terms of macros and shortcut keys and efficient workflow.

Wheni have 2 hours to prepare a technical memo, I really don't have time to learn a whole new software suite.
