What does Microsoft Office offer you that Open Office doesn't?
A wider user base. This may seem stupid but even though LibreOffice (and not OpenOffice that is now owned by Apache) is great, once you get to share files with clients and/or colleagues, it becomes a pain because of conflicts between both softwares. You may have (slight) differences in the way your word or powerpoint documents are displayed (which can be annoying for printing for example), in the functions and/or formulas in your sheets (that can simply be erased with the result simply written as is) etc. Nonetheless, for low-level work, it is definitely the software to use honestly.
You may be right, I dont know the specifics. I talk about LibreOffice because I thought it was a thread about free vs proprietary softwaresI believe Libre uses OpenOffice's code, however OpenOffice cannot use Libre's code. And the race to secure a competitive edge seems to lead to a lot of the buggy behavior. OpenOffice seems more stable.
