First HoloLens Prototypes Showcased

Microsoft’s HoloLens mixed reality (MR) head-mounted display (HMD) is still a relatively new concept, having only been revealed to the public in January 2015. The device has remained shrouded in mystery since that time, making a handful of showings at events such as E3. The company has revealed a lot more about the kit today, though, confirming that the anticipated Development Edition will be arriving in Q1 2016 for applicants in the USA and Canada at a price of $3,000 USD. Now a new video has been revealed giving a glimpse at the kit’s origins.

The first prototypes for HoloLens can be seen in a new video on Microsoft’s official website and are also screen capped below. These quick glimpses are also mixed with a look at HoloLens’ manufacturing while those that have worked on it talk about its design, specs and potential uses.

HoloLens allows users to peer into the real world which virtual objects that Microsoft calls ‘holograms’ appearing. Users can interact with these holograms with their own hands using gestures to control videogames and more. Although the Development Edition’s release details are now known, it’s still not clear when the kit will reach the consumer market.

VRFocus will continue to follow HoloLens closely, reporting back with the latest updates on the kit’s progress.

$3,000? :dead: no fukking way this is gonna be to be successful.
That's for a dev kit, but I couldn't see the final version going below 1k.

The difference here compared to other similar products is that you don't need a console/PC for it to work. All the hardware is self contained inside the unit.

And they don't seem to be positioning it for gaming to be the main use.

Guaranteed FOA (flop on arrival).

The potential for multi player games is tremendous tho. Going out to a field or abandoned building and playing COD would be dope as fukk
