A major japanese company merging with a major american company? I think it would look like cyberpunk 2077 is coming true
Japanese companies have too much pride for these type of mergers. But, it wouldn't be a merger, Microsoft would just buy them. Sony is worth 241 billion. Microsoft is worth 3.83 trillion 
Only way this happens if MS exits the gaming market completely and sells Sony its gaming rights and catalog.

With that said no one should want this.
Look it up, they see their companies as families. It is extremely rare, and the government intervenes and blocks it. Also, no hostile takeover of a Japanese company by a western interest has ever succeeded.
