It's going to be interesting how the portray Mike. Because when they first intro him in BB they make him seem like a mid-level fixer. Then it seems they saw how awesome of a character he was and reconned him to be the ultimate goon for all of Gus' operations. Did Saul know Gus back in the day? Are they going to show Gus?

Anybody think we'll see Gus? I wonder how Gus would figure into the series if they use him.

Retcon isn't the word I'd use. He was meant to keep an eye on Saul, and by extension Walt, so presenting himself as a super goon wouldn't make much sense. They obviously expanded his role beyond what they originally intended for his character but they did at least attempt to explain why he was low key at first. He didn't "blow his cover" until the "half measures" speech with Walt, and the next ep when he threatened Saul.

And no, Saul doesn't know Gus. At least not directly. They could have Gus meet Saul but not in any official capacity, in season 2 Saul didn't even know his name.

I foresee scenes with Saul and Mike, and Gus and Mike, but no overlap.

Question, Hex, why did Gus want an eye on Saul? Walt wasn't on Gus' radar at first. Also what sense would it make it have Gus in the series if he doesn't interact with Saul? It would be weird to have a whole side story that had nothing to do with Saul.

These are very good questions with no real concrete answers.

Saul was a shady character before we ever seen him. The very first episode we see him, when Walt and Jesse have him in the desert, he mistakes them for killers and says in Spanish :whoa: "I'm forever a friend of the cartel!". Directly after that he suggests they kill Badger, who is going to snitch.

So the guy was tied into killers and gangsters before he ever met Walt. Someone like that Gus would definitely have an interest in just off GP.

And this wouldn't be the first time these writers developed multiple tangentially related story lines. The entire cartel story line in season 4 had no direct connection to Walt, neither did the flash back with Gus. Gus, and by extension Mike, could shadow Saul in the series.
