Mirror?s Edge 2 will be open world, says Frank Gibeau. Also, six new IPs not yet announced | PCGamesN
Speaking to investors earlier today, President of EA Labels Frank Gibeau revealed that the next Mirror’s Edge game would be dropping the original’s linear level structure and opting for an open world instead.

He also hinted that the publisher had “five or six new IPs that are fully owned and we haven't announced yet." The coy b*stard.

Gibeau referred to the Mirror’s Edge as an "open-world action adventure game," though he didn’t expand on how that would feed into the game’s mechanics.

Opening up the world of Mirror’s Edge seems like a natural fit for the game that introduced the gaming masses to free-running. It’s a sport that’s all about exploring architectural space in new ways, finding routes that weren’t originally intended by a building’s designers. Guiding protagonist Faith about the dystopian city, developing familiar paths, and simply exploring the world that DICE are creating is a tantalising prospect; the original game was an odd mix of physical freedom but tight linear levels.

Also announced by Gibeau was the news that EA have “five or six” new IPs on the cards that they’ve yet to announce. These could be from new developers or from members of the familiar stable. It seems that EA are really pushing to freshen their portfolio.

This all gets a thumbs up from us.

I think its one of the most important franchises going forward, but unfortunately handled by EA. The first one showed great promise, but again was made by EA and I get the feeling rushed @ DICE because the massive Battlefield push was about to begin.

Tired of the same old bullshyt shooters year after year (with a few exceptions)

Yes, you should. You can usually find it for about $10, and it's one of my favorite games of this gen (mainly because of the concept, and the hopes of an improved sequel). I will admit that the main story is a bit short, but it's also good, good enough that I've been waiting for good news like this for about 5 years.

Please don't fukk this up EA :blessed:

this "sequel" is probably takes place before the first game. That's what I took away from the trailer.

First one was dope and it's only natural that it would've become open world.
I trust DICE, but EA on the other hand scares me. I just hope their "open world" does not mean some crazy restrictive DRM nonsense like simcity in where you can only do "Parkour" in a closed off section of the city or something unless connected at all times.

The first is worth playing on any console or the pc. Should be played with a controller though, don't bother with a keyboard and mouse
