Mississippi Grand Jury declines to indict the woman responsible for Emmett Till's murder

A grand jury in Mississippi has declined to indict the white woman whose accusation set off the lynching of Black teenager Emmett Till nearly 70 years ago, despite revelations about an unserved arrest warrant and a newly revealed memoir by the woman, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

After hearing more than seven hours of testimony from investigators and witnesses, a Leflore County grand jury last week determined there was insufficient evidence to indict Carolyn Bryant Donham on charges of kidnapping and manslaughter.

It is now increasingly unlikely that Donham, who is now in her 80s, will ever be prosecuted for her role in the events that led to Till’s lynching.

When I found out through my studies why the jews did it, I didn't quite get it. They were going to Argentina to indict 90 year old men who were about to croak...I had the same response as you at the time.

Time passed, at least a decade really, and then it clicked. It ain't about the time you spent in jail. It's the knowing that jail will be your last spot. It's knowing that before you leave this earth your name will ring out, but for your crimes. You can croak in 10 days when you're in, but you'll have lived a relatively normal life until that final moment where your past catches up to you and the only thing you'll be remembered for by a million people (due to news coverage) is a crime you committed long ago.

And thus justice will be served, because you will not have died an innocent. Not in the eye of your brethren, not in the eyes of world. Prayer will be all you have left, because not even in HIS eyes you'll be able to lie that you've been innocent.
