JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - Interim U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and former U.S. Representative Mike Espy are set to debate tonight in Jackson one week before the U.S. Senate runoff.

WTVA will air the one-hour debate live on ABC WTVA starting at 7 p.m.


WTVA will also stream the debate on WTVA.com and on the WTVA 9 News mobile app.

The debate is being produced by WLBT-TV and hosted by the Farm Bureau Federation.

The two are seeking to fill the remaining term of former U.S. Senator Thad Cochran, who retired earlier this year for health reasons.

Voters will decide the winner on Tuesday, November 27.

I thought about watching this, but I probably won't because the fact that Hyde-Smith will win regardless is depressing. Word to Gillum.:francis:

Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like these talented black politicians need to stop wasting their effort running for office in these shytty super-racist states.

Stage presence and charisma is SO important. I understand now why people get so caught up on Beto. Espy is a really bad public speaker - and that's regardless of his voice. He really really did a bad job prepping for this debate.

But Hyde-Smith's official response to her "hanging" remarks is that she gets really enthusiastic about constituent needs and we twisted her words. Her example to prove that that we twisted her words was a time when she was addressing a constituent with cancer and she said she'd fight for him until her arm fell off (or some shyt like that). She said clearly she was being hyperbolic in that instance, so we should've understood the same principle was in play when she made the hanging comment.
