It’s crazy how there’s enough money to pay these athletes and owners and networks, etc… these exorbitant amounts that they aren’t worth even a fraction of realistically, in terms of what purpose they serve…yet we have Skid Row, and other similar spots all over the country. Just a thought.

Thats on the govt. Not entertainment properties

Under the terms currently being discussed, NBC would acquire all of the league’s Sunday games and Wild Card playoff games for about $200 million per year, according to people familiar with the matter. Netflix will get the rights to the Home Run Derby for about $50 million a year, according to two people familiar with the deal.

ESPN is getting a brand new package of rights for $550 million, according to people familiar with the matter. ESPN has roughly assigned about $450 million in value to license MLB TV, the league’s digital out-of-market package of games.

ESPN is also acquiring in-market games to five local teams — the Cleveland Guardians, San Diego Padres, Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies — and will get a new mid-week package of national games. All of the agreements end after the 2028 season.

Under a three-year deal, MLB would be able to reorganize its media rights after the 2028 season.

Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Google, and all these big bag having non-sports/linear tv outlets getting into sports is just pushing up the bids and thereby the prices for all sports :snoop:

In some things, like streaming, they keep down the prices, but when you are bidding for shyt it has the opposite effect. But this is the coli, people would rather see the athletes than regular households eat.


One of my friends in the music industry told me that everyone in media is looking at sports with envy, the safest business in media.

Sunday evening local news anchors of the various NBC stations around the country are gonna be like :martin: if NBC has a Sunday night sporting event year round :mjlol:

I’m assuming the tournament’s US rights will stay with Fox, but would be interesting if Netflix bought that too. Between this and Home Run Derby it’d be a focus on special events.
