Is anyone else absolutely fascinated by Zizek and the way his mind works? I'm not going to lie, it took me probably a whole year to adjust the way I listen so that I comprehend his points, I could pickup things here or there but now I can listen to him speak for 1hr+ and completely understand it start to finish. this thread is probably gonna flop but goddamn this guy is so intellectually interesting to me. Are there any other modern philosophers considered on his level? I have consistently ran into Zizek material over 10+ years. Philosophy seems like some school of thought limited to antiquity. He's insightful yet not awkward or autistic in the way some high level intellectuals are, dude is funny as fukk in his own way. Thoughts?

Cliff notes on what his philosophy is? Time is something we’ll never get back so you’re asking a lot for people to randomly sit down and watch a video

The first video is about 10min long to get a dose of what Slavoj is. I'm going to be honest, it's incredibly hard for me to describe what he is. He is a thinker, historian who analyzes various political beliefs, ideologies and trends in society and thought. Here's his wiki description:

Slavoj Žižek (/ˈslɑːvɔɪ ˈʒiːʒɛk/ ⓘ SLAH-voy ZHEE-zhek; Slovene: [ˈsláːʋɔj ˈʒíːʒək]; born 21 March 1949) is a Slovenian neo-Marxist philosopher, cultural theorist and public intellectual.[4][5] He is the international director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities at the University of London, Global Distinguished Professor of German at New York University, professor of philosophy and psychoanalysis at the European Graduate School and senior researcher at the Institute for Sociology and Philosophy at the University of Ljubljana.[6][7] He primarily works on continental philosophy (particularly Hegelianism, psychoanalysis and Marxism) and political theory, as well as film criticism and theology. Žižek is the most famous associate of the Ljubljana School of Psychoanalysis, a group of Slovenian academics working on German idealism, Lacanian psychoanalysis, ideology critique, and media criticism. His breakthrough work was 1989's The Sublime Object of Ideology, his first book in English, which was decisive in the introduction of the Ljubljana School's thought to English-speaking audiences. He has written over 50 books in multiple languages and speaks Slovene, Serbo-Croatian,[8] English, German,[9] and French.[10] The idiosyncratic style of his public appearances, frequent magazine op-eds, and academic works, characterised by the use of obscene jokes and pop cultural examples, as well as politically incorrect provocations, have gained him fame, controversy and criticism both in and outside academia.[

a lot of people stopped taking him seriously years ago. he allegedly was a marxist, but now he seems to be a european chauvinist liberal
I'm not super educated on Marxist philosophy or ideology, I always wondered if that was simply his area of expertise or if he genuinely is a marxist, because he jokes all the time about it.

I honestly don't know what to make of him, aside from that I find him interesting and he makes me think about things in a different way. He has a lot of weird tics (I'm assuming he has some mild Tourettes of some kind) and a unique way of speaking that takes some getting used to. Idk, I always like to listen to people that are intelligent and challenge the way I think. There is no doubt this guy is very very smart and educated.

I wasn't aware of his status quo turn...

That's a shame, he used to be a bright spot for decades...

He used to be a common ex-Yugoslavian intellectual, fighting against communist authoritarianism, and believing in democracy...
Hoping to just add a freedom of speech on all the benefits that we used to have during communism...
