COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man fatally shot his 16-year-old daughter in the family's Columbus home after he mistook her for an intruder, according to what the girl's mother told police.

The mother called 911 after the shooting around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and said the father had shot at someone he thought was breaking into the house after the security system was activated, authorities said.

In a recording of the 911 call, the father asks his daughter what she was doing, and both parents beg for the girl, Janae Hairston, to wake up.

The daughter was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later, authorities said.

The shooting remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.

Just itchin to use that gun huh? I get it, dudes are on high alert but this is a lesson in being able to identify your targets, only takes a second to survey the situation being that you know the layout of your home better than any robber…rather than just blasting on sight and killing your children. He probably won’t ever pick up a gun again.

Sounds like she was trying to sneak in cuz she was out late.

16yr old coming in at 430am tripping all the alarms :francis:

I hate to blame the victim here... but that wasnt smart on her end

Come on, breh. Teens (unfortunately) have been sneaking out of their parents homes late into the night for eons. I only did it a handful of times, but it happens.

The real conversation here is this gun culture where everybody has a gun.

The simple truth is that everyone shouldn't have a gun if for no other reason than the fact that they aren't trained on the use of them and when and how to use them.

Why would you shoot when you can't see a face?

Even the police, most of the time, make sure they can see who it is they're shooting at if they're gonna shoot at somebody.

This is why guns should be rounded up. Only ppl that should have guns are cops. We should be like the UK where guns are outlawed.
