Had she been home he probably would have beat her ass again not set her home on fire knowing the kid was there with her.

They are both selfish. I think he started panicking wondering if the kid was inside cuz he likely heard the baby crying once the fire woke him up, but the dad did not run inside to save him. Instead he fled
