So I've noticed many people join the armed forces (4-6 year contract) THEN go to college (4 more years). So looks like it would be 8-10 years after it's all said and done. Isn't it smarter to do reserves/national guard AND go to school? (4 years total)

The military seems like a toxic environment. Seems prudent to limit your exposure to such an environment in the form of a part-time job (reserves/national guard) while reaping the benefits (i.e.: VA loan, tuition assistance)

First time I got shot at was at a cookout, then more than a few times on gate guard, then some more times because I was deemed "reliable" by my command so they had me "helping" resolve domestic violence situations with our outreach NCOs (read: I was the black guy, and these little white LTs that were tasked with checking on soldiers who lived outside of the barracks wanted someone that made them feel safe when they had to check on SFC Ibeatmywife and SGT Mywifebeats me every other weekend). There were barracks shootings. I was actually lucky enough to be off post when the last big one happened right across from the Wingzone or whatever its called. I usually bullshytted my lunches away there. Dude got his leave denied and decided to air out the whole office. Immediately off post is much worse. I've seen dudes flashing weapons at Sonic of all places.

I never saw any shootings at a training or field event. I'm sure its happened though. That doesn't mean shyt didn't go down out there....
:mjlol:

Curious on @Dray5K thoughts about this. I always wondered by most wait until they leave to do college. Is because most can't do time management?

Depends on the branch in the Air Force you have time to go to class n shyt especially if you arnt in maintenance or security forces some commands just require you to finish your cdcs so I finished my ccaf while in and was pretty close to my bachelors some people get their associates and use their GI bill to get a masters

you just have to have your priorities straight as a man women always gonna be everywhere same with going out n shyt but time waits on no man use it wisely

Also I was using tuition assistance and Fasfa

I keep hearing these stories of people being raped then killed in the military. What is wrong with these people :picard:

because the military is filled with degenerates who couldn't make it anywhere else. Then they return and serve as racist pigs domestically. fukk em

So it seems like the smart approach is to get a 2-year associates degree first. THEN join the armed forces as enlisted using your college credits to get into an elevated rank (as opposed to starting at the very bottom). Then leverage the TA (tuition assistance) program from the military to pay for your bachelors and/or masters? Community college is cheap and can be paid out of pocket. While getting a bachelors/masters from a university is way more expensive and thus makes more sense to take advantage of any kind of help (TA, scholarships)

Got a story related to this shyt too. My units AO was just on the other side of the Euphrates river from those 101st guys. So when they did that shyt we didn’t know anything about it. My platoon one night got back to the fob from patrol and literally it looked like the whole camp was spinning up to go out. So i knew something had went down and we most likely was bout to go right back out because the Battalion never rolls out together. So what happened was the village that the girl those soldiers raped and killed her family kidnapped 2 of their soldiers and killed 2 others. Next 5 days our mission was looking for them dudes. They ended up being found in a field dead with their bodies booby trapped with ieds.

Kidnapped 4 of the soliders who did it or just soldiers from that same unit?

Can short bruhs see combat ? I’m taking. 5’2-5’5

Yes, but your job mostly determines if you’re destined for direct combat. If you’re an infantryman and under 5’7” you’ll probably have to carry the m240b/m240L.

It’s not because it’s easier for you. It’s just so your platoon sergeant or squad leader can show off how much his short guys can hump or how much cooler his short guys are than everybody else’s short guys. Expect the tallest people in your unit to randomly pick you up for no reason. Everyone seems to love really short guys in combat arms like a good luck charm or mascot. Joe’s over 6’1 seem to have a disadvantage. If they’re not exceptional at something then everyone looks at them like a useless, disgusting waste that needs to carry everything to absolve the sin of being tall for no reason.

Historically most of the Army’s vehicles are designed for people under 6’. It’s best to be average in height anywhere in the Army.

If you made it through basic and AIT then there’s no reason you wouldn’t be deployed with the rest of your BCT. If seen a guy with narcolepsy in country and another guy in his company have a heart attack and still not be allowed to go home (went to Germany then sent back to East Afghanistan) . They just sent the heart attack guy to a larger base to work with battalion support company (mechanics, truck drivers, water dudes, etc.). We had to practically rescue an infantryman who had a broken leg because they thought he was good luck and he was soft if he left.

Guys from the same unit. The soldier that led the whole thing (PFC Green) had already been sent home for saying crazy shyt and being racist. He was medically discharged because no one really knew he did it. The locals knew it was an American because the three guys involved left behind shotgun shells from the breach gun they used.

He and the other two eventually got caught when the guy, they left behind to watch their little observation post, put two and two together and told on them. Even after he told no one believed him besides the chaplain and no one wanted the trouble. He told his dad he was being ostracized and punished for telling. His dad got in contact with a senator and the media. There was a big deal about whether to let the Iraqi’s try and imprison the three but they stayed stateside and were locked up forever. Green finally bushed himself in Federal prison.

The battalion was stretched so thin that they did patrols with 6 people at most. They held check points all day with one vehicle. The 4 were at a checkpoint and were surrounded, outnumbered. Nobody could get there fast enough because of the distance. There was a fight but 2 were killed on the spot the other 2 were captured and tortured mercilessly to death. None of them had anything to do with it.

The same thing happened a year later to some 10th mtn dudes who went to sleep during a convoy in the same area.

EDIT: I was wrong about the 4. It was originally 3 at the checkpoint. Also I mentioned earlier that they were 2/502nd but it was 1st battalion.
