Kinda in a dilemma that I am hoping the Coli can help me out with. It's a good dilemma to be in actually.

I work in logistics and supply chain. I make damn good money, a little over 6 figures. I have no certs...I didn't study this in school, I just fell into it.

I'm 33 years old. :flabbynsick: as I get older, I realize committing the money and time to get an MBA is getting further out of my reach, so I am of the mindset that I just need to get the experience.

I recently found out a lot more responsibility is going to come my way. With that responsibility more money will come my way. Not exactly sure how much, but I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 20-25%.

One of the director's in another department wants me to join her team. It's something that I definitely want and need to get under my belt, however there is no raise associated.

The caveat to all of this is, i work for a horribly run company and if I'm here past spring of 2019, I'm going to be majorly disappointed in myself.

So if you were in my shoes would you choose experience or the money?

I choose both. Transfer to the dept w/ more skills after the raise.

As long as you're gaining new skills. You should not stress about your duration at the company.

The thing is the timing on both won't allow me to get the raise than transfer. Effectively the role in the other department is a role lower than mine, but I would be grandfathered in so I could keep my salary and bonus. But a raise is not to be expected.

I would find out how long I have to stay in the new role before I can transfer again. Im sure they will have more vacancies in the role with more skills come late 2018.

But, due to your last response, I would carefully evaluate the options. Is the fair market wage for the new skills > your salary + raise? If it is, I would take the role with more skills.

Let's put it this way, I could very easily go somewhere and be a director of distribution. But if i want to be a VP of supply chain, I need this other skill under my belt. Distribution is under the supply chain umbrella. Both would pay me more money, but I would plateau sooner without the skill, plus I would pigeonhole myself that high up without any other supply chain experience.

Even now in the low 6 figures I'm not being paid market value for what I do, so it's tempting to take the money. I work for a fortune 500 company that I won't name, but they underpay everyone.

The new skills/ experience will get you further in the long run and will make you more marketable. If money is not an issue and you aren't in desperate need of the raise, forget the money.

He can't transfer two people from somewhere and give someone else a raise?

Believe it or not our roles are the most nuanced in all of supply chain. There is no formula, software or spreadsheet you can put together for what we do. Its people management basically.

So you can't just transfer someone into the role who doesn't have the skillset to manage warehouse workers, know transportation and carrier behavior, customer ordering patterns, how weather effects operation status, etc. All my counterparts have run warehouses, and very few other people in corporate have. Part of the reason they are giving me a bag to take over managing all of these extra warehouses.

Just sucks this role didn't come about in November instead of December.
