Rappers shouldn't "stick in their lane" that's a ridiculous thing to say. You can be intellectual and be a rapper, Mos didn't conduct himself well but to generalize all rappers by Mos is just senseless.
That being said, is there a full version of the whole conversation?
Christopher Hitchens was a sell out and overrated intellectually anyway, he got RIPPED during the debate with George Galloway, Salman at least I can say is obviously intelligent, but if he was wiser he wouldn't have been so deliberately inciting in The Satanic Verses, whether artistic or not if he wasn't prepared for the consequences, and since he had the façade of becoming muslim after it would seem like he wasn't. Don't get me wrong though as I respect Salman.

I disagree. Sure, this wasn't the best moment for Mos Def. That being said I think it's wrong to just say if you're a raper don't try to come off as an intellectual. It's a false dichotomy to even say that they're related. Mos getting roasted doesn't have anything to do with him being a rapper. He's just a dude that was in a little over his head. It doesn't have anything to do with his career choice.
Mos Def didn't even come across incredibly in the roundtable discussion with Pun, Bis, DMX and them because he was raising his voice and over talking a bit too much.
Mos isn't stupid, he just needs to work on his debating skills, particularly in certain environments. Dame Dash did a good job on the O'Riley show.

Star held his own with O'reilly too. I'm a fan of mos def but it's always the cats who present themselves as smart and deep who end up looking stupid in these environments.
I think Immortal Technique can handle himself well. KRS is very capable too, Brother Ali also, infact there's plenty, they purposefully try to get people to make us look stupid. Ice T is articulate too.
