I think it goes beyond rap, since the music is merely a reflection of the people. Modern black American culture consists of consumerism, an obsession with the superficial, misogyny and an absence of black love, an aversion to education, a glorification of criminality, and a covetous worship of white wealth and power.

A lot of the artists aren’t black American either.

Check the lineage of some of the most raunchy acts in hip hop history.

Uncle Luke for example is from the Islands.

The 90s had a good balance between conscious and ratchet. Now there is hardly any conscious stuff. And R&B no longer exist

this

In the 90s, you could turn on the radio and 2pacs “I Get Around” is playing and then they’ll play “Dear Mama” after 2 more songs.

It's usually like that every 5 - 10 years. Like the South era was kind of trash but the next era you had Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Cudi and Future after. The generation after this one should be good.
