It's really hard to say who is independent and who isn't when it comes to messing with major labels. For example EMI bought Priority around 96/97, but Priority operated as an independent company under EMI. However, how could one know if you were using the major arm or if your were using the independent arm? It's like saying that Jay-z was independent cause they had a distribution deal with Def Jam splitting the profits 50/50.
As far as true independent goes, that is no affiliation with major label. I'd say Tech9ine, Chance only has one album thus far.
