A lot of people don't understand that there are black people in Mexico and other parts of Latin America. The ones that come here are not aligned with black or indigenous people despite them having some indigenous or black DNA in the past. Whiteness is heavily valued in Latin America and most people here make the mistake of seeing them all as "POC" and assuming they're alligned with black people.

I always get a bit annoyed whenever someone tries to say that "black and brown" people are united in their struggle against white supremacy. In reality, although black and white/brown Latinos may both experience racism, that DOES NOT mean that Latinos are fighting white supremacy WITH black people.

There is a racial caste system in this country. Black people are at the bottom and Latinos understand themselves as being ABOVE black people on the caste system.

I often joke about sending him to a creative thespian school since he always animated with everything, but most likely he will continue to ride with it since he's going to the 8th grade. It's more of a convenience for us as a whole due to my doctor appointments and treatments, also the wife has a stretch to get to her job.

Last time, we did the public school thing, we had to go to meetings, deal with his issues before he was diagnosed with being gifted, and other nonsense.

Once we realized that most folks around these parts home school their kids too, we were at ease because we not the only ones that think the school system stinks, despite being shytted on for looking out for our sons best interest.

It had to take the pandemic for a public school teacher to suggest that he get tested on being gifted and a home school to find out for themselves after years of headaches, teachers wondering what's wrong with him, and other foolishness.

if you know other homeschool parents who arent too (it is alabama after all, im sure white supremacists pull their kids out of schools too "diverse") maybe they could help with socializing? maybe yall could start up some homeschool sports or something, let the kids play together if they get along. too nerdy for sports? rent/buy them an instrument and let the kids learn/jam together maybe. i was thinking about it and homeschooled kids miss sports, band, and prom. its doable but as parents yall have to fill in those gaps.
