ending of

no country for old men

:stopitslime:

the first movie i thought of. i didnt mind the ending, but killing off lewellen out of the blue like that was bullshyt. they didnt even show him die. hes a main character, they create all this buildup like there will be some big showdown between him and chigur then all of the sudden whoops sorry hes dead. :wtf: :aicmon:

While I understand why some of y'all dislike it...everything that happens in No Country For Old Men is consistent with the overall theme of the movie....:ehh:

It's a philosophical movie with western undertones....it's NOT a western movie with philosophical undertones.

"Can't stop what's coming"
"The coin got here the same way I did"

It's about determinism and fate...too many forces in the universe were lined up against Llewelyn...he was always going to die, no matter what. Didn't matter if he got in a shoot out or if we saw it or not...

Another way to look at it...view the film from the perspective of the Sheriff as opposed to the perspective of Llewelyn. Even though Llewelyn has the most screen time and may be the "main character"....thematically, the film is clearly more about the Sheriff (Hench being called, No Country for Old Men)...he's always one step behind everyone. He simply can't keep up anymore. His convictions are challenged by Chigurh's convictions and in the end...Chigurh is actually more righteous. The Sheriff knows that Chigurh is in the hotel with him at the end...he's too frightened to actually confront him.

I understand why many dislike it. I personally vibed with it myself.

Another Coen Brothers joint, "A Serious Man"...seems to deal with somewhat similar themes. Hell, Fargo, another one of their films, also seems to touch on some of the same thing.

I'd like to watch Fargo -> No Country -> A Serious Man in a marathon and see what I can come up with.

Sunshine,

movie was on course to become a sci-fi classic, then they add a serial killer to the story which turns the movie into Event Horizon 2 :snoop:

Fixed.

Sunshine was cool but I can't forgive it for being so similar to Event Horizon. I mean, the main villain actually looked like the one in EH.

Yeah I agree the movie pretty much sucked when u think about it... Lazy ass writing is its downfall. Crazy how most peeps gave it positive reviews...seemed most dudes on this board thought it was great.

It was one of the corniest zombie movies to me.

Had none of the charm of a good zombie movies (comedy relief, gore, good characters)
