First off those two records wouldn't pushed as singles by either one of them. Second, two of the biggest and proven names of the last decade releasing those songs is different from an artist trying to break through and throwing out Why and One Mic, you know that. And even Cole or Kendrick releasing this would chart but it would be at the bottom.

Those are not hits today.

It seems like record labels had been trying to find the next Kendrick or Cole but none of these new guys can balance topics like they did so they gave up. It's either too boring, corny, or lazy. They also don't have much of a story so a connection with the audience is nonexistent.

Someone said it earlier, but that balance is gone.
A white Em clone from YouTube, a street dude, and a XXX or Juice WRLD copycat is all you're getting 9/10 today from the mainstream.

The real issue is... outside of groups (fugees, digible, etc)
The consumers and most humans men and women
Dont want to see Women present in this Hip hop Form and express in this manner. Its cool........ but it doesnt move your soul and doesn't encourage continuous listening.

Unless shes actually presenting as a stripper , people dont want to hear it long term, even feminists if they are honest

Have record labels really been looking for the next one? It doesn't seem like it.

I was told I was him but the game changed :wow:

Nobody wanna listen to that

It's the same thing with the WNBA

They dont need "more marketing". Everybody knows who Rapsody is. They just don't give a fukk about her

It is what it is. You can't force ppl to listen to something they don't wanna do

Exactly... Plus i have ZERO in common with a female rapper...

Cordae is the latest imo. I think he was meant to appeal to the younger crowd given his YBN affiliation at the time, dissing older rappers, etc.

Back in the day there was a variety. Had conscious emcees, party rappers, funny characters, gangsters, etc.. All of that could be represented on one episode of Yo MTV, Rap City, the radio in any major city, etc. Something somewhere down the line broke and I don't know what it is. 1996 Telecommunications Act maybe? Viacom? I don't know.

You still have that variety, tho:

Drake/Em/Travis = Pop star rappers
Kendrick/Cole/Cordae = Conscious rappers
Jack Harlow/Roddy = Party rappers
Da Baby/Sada Baby/6ix9ine = Funny character rappers
Lil Baby/21 Savage/Moneybagg Yo = Gangster rappers
Lil Uzi/Plaboi Carti/Tyler = Weirdo emo rappers
A Boogie wit da Hoodie/Gunna = Singing ass rapper

etc etc

Ehhhhh, I don't know man. Maybe I'm out of tune. Cuz while I agree with you on pop and conscious, I can't say I'm familiar enough with the others to categorize them as funny, party, gangster, emo, or singing, etc..

For a female artist...their production needs to be Trump tight. Females and casuals are captured by the beat and then a catchy hook.

And it needs to be formatted so it's similar to what they hear on the radio. Tempo, bpm, etc. Females and casuals don't know any better. They're basically like children.
:scust: Thats the format for pop music

The problem with these rappers is they don't listen to older music and study music as I said before in other threads about producers, nobody is studying music theory to actually create and are just following a template while making tweaks.

These women think Nikki Minaj is the queen and can't recite any Lauryn Hill lyrics, then wonder why they can't make any moves. I listen to Tierra Whack but most of her music is like heavy on visual artistry but she throws down during freestyle formats

Tank and the Bangas ain't necessarily in this conversation but Tarionna Ball spits crazy but Thot rap is getting all the push right now
