...so why do artists make videos for every song on every album/mixtape now??...granted, their all low budget and shot on the spot by their personal video photographers...but whats the point?

every now and then you might get a video that goes viral..like trinidad james. and blows up an artists career....but established artists it doesnt really seem to do much ...like why does rick ross have so many videos??

Its weird cuz you're right cuz people aren't really excited about watching videos anymore.

But at the same time music videos are even more necessary than ever cuz with all of these unofficial mixtapes coming out every day your video is the only thing that makes it "official" and helps you stand out. A link to your album will be forgotten in 2 days if you have no buzz, a video lasts much longer...

Still they're not...once you're a rapper yourself you'll understand.

If you make a PROFESSIONAL LOOKING video...waaay more sites will push your music & you'll automatically generate more views than with just songs...

The era of the million dollar videos are gone but I think videos are important but not the end all to be all. Plus alot of them aren't as creative as they were back in the day. They have become as simple as the songs themselves. Place some models here. Rented high priced car here. Rented goons with mean tough faces here. I remember when videos would be like mini mini movies. Puffy Daddy "Victory" or Busta Rhymes "dangerous". Ain't like that no more

Music channels might not be but with the value of youtube and companies starting to make view counts matter for whatever reason, I think the visual medium is probably more relevant than ever for an artist to break online.

Pretty much. When I do sometimes click on a video I'll end up opening another tab and just listening to the song without watching it. shyts are all the same with maybe an exception or two here in there.

:manny:

The last video I watched more than once was that Lion Babe jawn :whew:

Agrees with this right here.

There are still some very good videos every now and then. The videos for bytch Bad, Bye Baby, Daughters, Bonfire, HYFR, and Backseat Freestyle come to mind. But the majority seem uninspired. The last really EPIC visuals for music was Kanye's Runaway short film. Artists need to bring the creativity back to their visuals instead of being lazy and letting the strippers and video models just be 5 minute eye candy

Good PROFESSINAL videos still are a good look for an artist but I agree that the mystique of the music video is dead...

Remember when you had to actually "catch" your favorite video on TV? Remember when a big artist would release a video & everyone would talk about it & you would actually have to sit there in front of MTV or BET for a while before it came on?

Those days are dead... music & video is too accessible now & people aren't excited about it anymore because they're spoiled. If you hear someone dropped a video you can just go on Youtube & watch it in less then 2 minutes... & watch it as many times as you want which conditions you to not care about it anymore after a few watches whereas before if you liked it you just had to watch TV to eventually catch it again.

Jermaine Dupri a while ago described this age of the Music Industry as people who are thirsty can get water (downloading music, watching videos) anytime they want... the days of the mystique & excitement about music are very much behind us.

Most music videos these days are shot by peoples friends & there's no real stories... just a bunch of in focus & out of focus shots of people in front of their crew with no cut scenes or anything. It's kind of a joke...

Video's use to be a huge deal....

Mostly because that was the only way people had to keep up with what was trending.

Now we have the internet.

Video are still a big deal today (even though I usually don't watch a video to almost a year later now) But more so for the teenie boopers and females.
