we're working on it. its a limitation of the server and basically any server. when you upload your avi it gets resized to a few different sizes for use around the board. that resize cant handle gifs...its not like we're running photoshop on the server 
theres some work arounds but they all involve using beta functions on the server so we're going to look into it a bit more

also ... timestamps after a week won't show the time anymore - only the date?
