My desktop is dying... is it possible to turn it into a virtual machine?

I'm not sure if that's the right term but is it possible to turn this into an image and use it on another comp?

Reason I ask is because IT at my school installed a windows image on my Mac via Parallels. It's like having two computers in one.

There's gotta be something I can do with this machine. It's slow and :flabbynsick:

why you no just get new computer breh? you want an exact copy of the shyt on your current one on your mac?

My funds are kinda low. I don't need it for my Mac. I might get another desktop tho since you got me thinkin... :patrice: But I want to keep all my stuff. What's the easiest way to achieve this?

Is your hardware dying or is your computer just slower?

Comp is slow, but my audio card is acting up as well.

depending on budget, u could probably build a cheap decent pc for like 300, then just yank out the old hd, and transfer your files over.

When you say keep all of your stuff, what do you mean?

I wouldn't advise trying to save an old installation unless you have some application dependency which prevents a clean insallation (which is rare). You'd be much better off saving the data/files you need and doing a new install.

So I'd need to buy a new OS? Right now I'm on Vista :scust:

The only shyt I REALLY need to keep is my media and some of my music making applications. Some of those programs are obsolete (i.e. Cool Edit Pro) and I'm too lazy to try to recreate the settings and file mappings. (i.e. when you open a session and it cant find all the wavforms).

I guess I could consider a new comp, it's not THAT expensive.

Technically, yes.

You could reuse your current key with a workaround, but at that point I wouldn't even waste the time with Vista.

Either way, you're not going to be able to image your machine and drop it on a VM or some new hardware. You're gonna have some serious problems if the OS even starts.
