Mr. Smith was the coolest. It was the 1st time in my life outside my home that I seen a Black man in a "teaching" role. He was also our 6th grade basketball coach. We came into practice one day and he had the instrumental to Too Short's "The Ghetto" playing. We were all like :banderas:

I had no idea Mr. Smith was born & raised in Baton Rouge. For the brehs in my class that didn't have a father figure inside the home, those 6 hours in class, he was it.

(this is an actual real story btw)
I remember one time we had a game vs an all girls' team:mjlol: I wasn't even a starter and we had 1 girl on our team. Coach actually let me start the game vs them. This one chick went up for a shot, I blocked it from behind, hit it out of bounds and yelled "AHHHHHHH!!!!!" The look of humor and disgust on coach's face as he shook his head still makes me laugh to this day:pachaha:

R.I.P. Mr. Smith
