it'd be different if buddy was going to your friends house and they were riding together. Like if he lived nearby and told your homie, let me ride with you since your homie going the same way anyways. But not for your friend to go out of his way to get him. If i worked a set schedule or a regular job, I'd have no issues with someone riding with me since I'm going to the job regardless but not for me to pick them up. And if they don't get there on time, they stuck.
