I'd gone to this movie premiere for "A Low Down Dirty Shame" starring Keenan Ivory Wayans & Jada Pinkett. After the flick me and my homeboy from Chicago went to the Palladium nightclub for the after party. It was an industry thing so it was alot more networking thing than a show. My homie went doing the schmoozing thing while I hit the open bar. I grabbed a couple drinks and looked around. The industry thing was never really my style cause its alot of small talk with a bunch of strangers. Alot of people arent even talking about music or even knowledgeable. They're there just shooting the shyt looking for business info. Not hating just wasnt my thing... So I'm to myself drinking..enjoying the free food... just looking for something to do. There were artists performing songs from the soundtrack on stage. I had no clue who most of them were. I'm looking around though and the performers were getting no love at all. No one was paying them any attention. People just continued doing what they were doing. No vibing, just everybody talking. Organized Konfusion came on stage and started performing. I was like "Oh shyt!" I grabbed my two drinks and walked over to the dance floor. No one was bopping their heads let alone dancing so it was pretty empty. I stood mid front-enter thinking "This is f*kin great! The liquor got me nice and I got OK giving me a personal show!" lol So I'm vibing with it. In my own lil world..bopping my head...doing my lil two step and shoulder shimmy. I started to feel someone hovering behind me to the left a bit. Drunk or not u stay aware of your surroundings so I do a shoulder check and see Pac there. Not 4 feet from me bopping his head vibing to Organized Konfusion also. Anyone who's ever been in a crowd at a packed concert knows you can feel and energy or current running thru people. Same is true when its just two or three people also. Anyone who makes music can attest to this. People get synced together to a vibe. I turned back and kept enjoying the show. I felt that sync though...Monche and Prince Po flowing on that stage were like the conductors and the beat was the metronome. The vibe continued for a few minutes, just that love of music. Near the end of their set these two females walked over to the front corner of the stage. They weren't vibing. Their backs were turned to the stage and they were just whispering to each other and staring. I felt the energy shift and glanced over at Pac. He was there but he'd stopped vibing the same. He wasn't lost in the music anymore. The girls were staring and talking about him and he was fully aware he was being watched. They came over after a bit and said whatever they said and then bounced. Dude bounced a minute later.
About three days passed and I was sitting down watching TV at my uncle's place in Queens when the news came on..."Rapper Tupac Shakur was shot this evening as he entered a recording studio in Manhattan..." It was crazy. I remember thinking to myself "Damn, I was just with him the other day".
R.I.P. Pac
