Has anybody else experienced that? I try to ignore it, but it’s extremely apparent and like I say: weird.

My cousin is a pro athlete. He was a multi-athlete and star player all his life and he’s not a major name, but who knows what the future holds. I’m hoping he exceeds all our beliefs for real.

It’s weird talking about him with my pops though. I mean, he’ll mention whatever he’s doing more than he asks about me and I’m definitely not some star athlete, but I’ve done some dope shyt in my own right and it revolves around in the same field of work that pops is in. This thread is probably gonna be taken the wrong way but I’m just saying: you can sense that he’s borderline living vicariously through him or something and my own works won’t compare. I’m just curious how others approached it.

Damn that sucks.

All you can do is keep being yourself. Sounds like your successful and end of the day that’s what matters. Your pops knowingly overlooking you is something you can’t control. But man…there’s nothing wrong with sidelining family. You aren’t obligated to go to holiday events, birthdays etc with people who make you feel like this.

I gave that shyt up awhile ago and it just feels good knowing I don’t have to deal with annoying family shyt anymore.

What your cousin does is probably more in line with what your father likes.

My dad is super into sports and I'm not so I never played growing up.

He understood what I was good at, school, and he nurtured that instead of forcing me to play sports just because he did.

He's a good communicator though and let's it be known he's proud of me.

A lot of folks from the previous generations aren't very good at expressing themselves.

More than likely he's proud, just don't know how to say it.

Mine was the same growing up with me being compared with all my cousins. I used to hate it. I was often blatantly asked, "why cant you be more like XYZ-cousin" . The complaints from both parents ranged from my academics, to my sports, to my matchmaking. :francis:

Coincidentally, despite living in different states, every single one of them got booked for weed position shortly after highschool, so i soon became "best child in family" by default. It pays to be lowkey in life. So i guess somebody in the sky is looking out for my interests.:lolbron:
