My son Edmund is an awesome young man. He currently has a 3.83 GPA, and has above average testing scores in language arts, math, and science. Edmund is very loving and the first to extend a helping hand if a fellow student needs help. We attribute his success to doing our best as parents and the great education he is getting at a local charter school, Gateway Science Academy. So imagine our shock when we found out Edmund would no longer be allowed to attend Gateway Science Academy due to state laws because he is African-American.

Our family is moving to the nearby Pattonville school district. When I asked the admissions office if Edmund would still be allowed to attend I was forwarded the admissions guidelines and was shocked at what I read. Children from the school district where we are moving are allowed to enroll in Gateway Science Academy as long as they don't identify as African-American.

These guidelines were put in place by the state and is unfair for my child who has been going to the school since kindergarten and has been excelling. Not admitting Edmund simply because he is African American is just wrong. My son loves his school, friends, and teachers. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education should not deny my son admission based on his race.

Please sign our petition asking them to allow Edmund to remain in the school where he has found so much success as well as change the ruling on race being the deciding factor on if a child can attend GSA. We are going to show Edmund that his parents, school, community, and people across the country will fight for what is right.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released thefollowing statement on this case:

"The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) would like to clarify the situation involving an African American Gateway Science Academy student denied transfer from St. Louis County to the Gateway charter school. This unfortunate situation is not due to state law or state regulations. It is a result of the student's change in residency from St. Louis City to a school district in St. Louis County.

"Even if the family's new St. Louis County school district participated in the transfer program, the student would still not be able to transfer. This situation stems from the 1980 U.S. Court of Appeals ruling that the St. Louis City and County schools were maintaining segregated systems. In 1983, the schools reached a Desegregation Settlement Agreement allowing African American students to transfer into primarily white suburban school districts and for non-African American students to attend St. Louis schools. The goal was to try to balance the racial makeup of the city and county schools.

"There are no state laws or DESE regulations specifically preventing African American students from transferring schools."

so much for social integration.... we headed back to jim crow 2.0, and more helpless than ever....

how many ways can we get the message out to black folks to start thinkin like everyone else economically, politically, and socially? We gotta have a black media outlet to deliver the message...

back from reconstruction up to the civil rights era, the message woulda been delivered at church... with the pastor spreading the word and enforcing the code..

but today the black church is GONE... the civil rights c00ns infiltrated that shyt...

it aint a place of revolution and strength no more, its where cowards go to hide and listen to the pimp talk while they wait their turn to die and go to massa's afterlife.... cause they've already given up on this life....

another black outlet that started up in the 70s was hip hop... we had proud black artists like public enemy, paris, melle mel, krs, pac, rakim, and more....

that was at the same time all these great scholars like dr. john henrik clarke, dr. welsing, dr. ben were preaching african history and exposing white supremacy at its core....

you look today & mainstream hip hop is GONE... thats what happens when you dont own or control your own creations...

and thats the price of social integration... by now we coulda been thriving like the asians, arabs or any other non-black group....

these other groups integrated their kids in schools, but they also didnt give away their entire economy...

they prepared their kids for adulthood... they teach em about their culture and stand up to any white supremacist that tries to miseducate and mislead them.... but you look at us, and we being funneled into special ed class like crazy....

most of us DEPEND on the schools to teach our kids everything, cause we dont got shyt to teach them....

we usually end up kicking em out at 18 dead broke.... nobody else does that but black folks....

if all you gave your child growing up was food and housing, didnt teach them shyt or pass nothing down... you might as well have raised a pet dog instead of a child...

cause theres nothing you gave to that child that you also wouldnt give to the dog....

na. it's not the school that doesn't want him...it's the district/state regulations that is tying the school's hands.
