So.. I am against reparations.
To be for reparations you must not understand the function of government.
Government is not supposed to have money, it's all your money.
So the govt. is not paying for it, the people are, including black people.
And it is very difficult to say that whatever money the country owns to slaves, it gets inherited by the great grandsons.
So the question is, does the country 'OWE" anything to present day living African americans?
And the answer is yes, what the country has robbed from today's African americans is culture.
All African americans should know where they come from, they should get free ancestrial information.
Because it is something that is owed to black people.
Now, how the hell does that get implemented.
Well.. I would say that there should be a referendum where the people can vote but only on state levels.
So yes, that means that California may fund such a program but New Jersey won't.
Thoughts?
EDIT: I have changed my stance on this topic. I should have read more on the topic, and the problem is I also did the mistake of limiting reparations to the topic of slavery.
I now support reparations for what is and has been happening since I would go back to the 60s. However that would be the main reason why I'd support it, not because of slavery though.
