what changed is the fact that the music industry started gearing its products to fictitious record buyers that dont exist. and record sales have steadily gone down year-by-year ever since. the only people that are still shelling out cash are gullable sheep.

People were still selling boatloads of albums during the napster era.
Now you have more people on the Internet and more sharing of information the album is doomed.
Not to mention the ability to buy singles with ease from the largest music retailer and apps like Pandora and streaming sites like Spotify
Not only is the album easier to get for free now than ever it is an archaic listening experience
