Name a movie/tv show where the director makes a movie watchable or even great?

So name a movie or tv show where they are lacking in a certain area (script, actors). But the director really puts it all together.

This is a controversial example and I know some of yall about to come for me. The Wire is the 2nd greatest show of all time. But some of non-professional actors were lacking (I know some were from the neighborhood. And obviously there are exceptions like Snoop). But having a good director they were able to overcome that.

This thread ain't about the Wire. I'm just curious about who are some directors who were about to overcome defiencies.

Mr. Robot was a good show, one of the best at the time, but it was elevated from good to great through Sam Esmail’s visual style.

That’s the example that immediately jumped to mind
