Kind of like how Karl Malone is. Yeah, he's recognized as one of the greatest PF's, but it would be so much different if he won a ring. Barkley would be in the same boat if he wasn't in the media. Do you guys remember how the media labeled Dirk as soft before he won? He was damn near a laughing stock. Man that ring changed everything for him as far as perception. Retiring without a ring taints your legacy as an NBA great more than any other sport. Here are a few players who I feel will be overlooked and kind of lost in the shuffle as time passes if they get a Chip.

Chris Paul: If he wins a championship, the whole narrative in his career will change and will solidify his spot as one of the best point guards to ever do it. If he doesn't, history will not be kind to him. And if he never even makes the finals :sadcam:

Carmelo Anthony: I think he can actually do the most for his legacy compared to any other current player by winning a Title. If not, he's destined to be viewed as a one dimensional scorer. I don't think people will truly appreciate Melo's talent as a score if he don't get that Chip. He will be severely underrated when it's all said and done.

Kevin Durant: He still has time, but:francis: He's really at a point where he is really about to start feeling the pressure to win a Chip for the sake of his Legacy. I think he will be viewed as someone who just didn't have enough "heart" if doesn't win one. If he does win one, all people will ever talk about is how pure of a scorer and how unguardable he was.

Howard and Melo unfortunately. Great players, especially Dwight in his '11 season (better than the MVP)

Paul is a given. People don't even want to put him in the same convo as IT even though he's arguably better

Dwight as the preeminent big man of the mid 2000's even with his basic post game and lack of a go to move will be looked at as a failure if he never wins a title. Big men are considered locks usually to get a ring. And after 2009 most thought he would eventually get his too. Now it's looking bleak for that to happen and he will be seen as an underachiever if he doesn't win a ring.
