rappers having to live their rhymes then getting shytted on for living their rhymes

the whole "cnn for the hood" bullshyt...we maybe should've embraced the actor/wwe approach with rap music and let artists have a license to just be creative, play a role, tell stories and leave it at that..that keep it real shyt fukked alotta lives up

It's been said a million times but ya'll don't wanna hear it; MOST OF GUYS ARE CRIMINALS FIRST.

With social clout being what it is, you can legit be a criminal and drop a hot song and get a deal.

Name names; King Von (RIP) wasn't going to art school learning music theory before he dropped music, his wrap sheet longer then his discography.

Those Who I Smoke kids are in gangs, then released music. Most of the people involved in fukkery in their lives have no rap songs and just shoot each other.

What you're witnessing to what the hood looks like with the degradation of the middle class. Selling drugs, boosting, but, no real outlook of class ascension, so you in the hood in Gucci and Baliencoga.

Yes, the 90's had plenty of studio gangsters, but, a lot of dude gave that shyt up to make money.

Nowadays you can get a decent amount of money from having a high follower count for fukkery and money from shows for your lil mixtape.

The criminal element in Rap has increased. It's like having 5 Death Row Records in every city.

Image. Nobody wants their fav rapper to have sugar in their tank
Listen to Eazy E, Soulja Slim, Lil Wayne, Bizzy Bone etc voices. Very feminine. You suspect nothing? Where do you draw the line?

Birdman, Dre, Puffy, Bambaata and many more in the rap game are homo or bi. Put out some great music. You won't listen to that anymore?

I'm not the Drake hater I used to--I just ignore him, now--but, he's the first Top Dawg of Rap is constantly steal styles from the youngins.

Even his tough guy mixtape was stealing with ATL writer penning some of his flows.

Jay-Z would bite, but, he was trend hopping past his prime. Drake in his prime done did everything but Drill.

I'll always give Jay a pass because they way we shyt on Legends is unacceptable.

But, when Jigga was stealing whole album art concepts and dressing like the Diplomats (during their wallet chain era) during his Run This Town era I was looking at him funny.

I think it's cool Jay using BIG rhyme we all know are Biggie rhymes for tribute.
The hell are you talking about? :what:

Jigga did a 180 from RD to Vol 1 trying to get the Diddy/Hitmen stimulus package and flopped. That's why Streets Is Watching exists. Sunshine defests your whole comment :dead:

He also tapped up Swizz immediately, off the back of DMX's two plat albums and the Neptunes when their beats were the number 1 trendy thing to get.

This was peak Jigga btw

And switching up obscure BIG lyrics to the point only huge fans of him would know it was BIG's is not a tribute...it's stealing.

You're selectively reading to be condenscding.

Jay was rightfully called out for such--I concentrated on him biting Kanye/Cudi, so sue me (I still acknowledge Jay-Z bites and trend hops at the end of the day).

Jay-Z didn't get so successful off Sunshine that all rappers started putting on shiny suits.

The question asked is when it became acceptable. Over the last 5 years atleast 90% of rappers use the same formula as each other...not so much in the late 90's to 00's.

we can argue Jay just went left to stay relevant, after his prime, he went back to selling drugs in American Gangster after telling us to grow up, wear a suit and rap about IPO's. It was much worst past The Black Album. The last original thing Jay did was stop wearing jerseys--then went back to wearing jerseys

sex songs and a sexual image is the only thing that can make a female rapper hot. it's not, we have proof, the industry and listeners are just lazy tho
Doesn't Lauryn Hill have the best selling album by a female rapper? I know her album was half singing too, but still.

You say this but a lot of y'all were in those Young Buck threads clownin' and talkin' down. Da truth of da matter is y'all are selective about who you apply shyt to.

Rappers bragging about record sales. It destroyed quality.

I never understood this and also calling others old or washed up because it never looks good in the long run. Very few rappers stay "hot" for a long period of time and father time is undefeated. Good examples is 50 bragging about record sales and a few years later he was dumped by Interscope and putting out flops and Dipset calling other rappers old and washed up and look how most them nikkas look now and most their records they drop nowadays are mediocre.

Word :russ:

Vince Staples got some good people around him because I remember he said once that his manager told him to stay away from calling older rappers old and/or washed up because he'll be there soon too.

The idea of "GOAT" in rap needs to be abolished.

there should be a GOAT tier rappers category, but no one GOAT in rap.

Rap as a artform can never really have a GOAT nor will there ever be. Not even a general consensus will agree on who a GOAT is. and theres so many arguments you can have for each rapper. its its gonna be neverending.

No one in rap is truely above the rest like that, to be Michael Jordan(or jacksons) equivalent in rapp.
