I was thinking the other day, it would be dope if there were real Hip Hop museums/cultural preservation spaces in the top Hip Hop hoods across America that were dedicated to the contributions of the neighborhoods they're housed in. It would be even doper if those spaces were built and curated by us (meaning cultural figures, Hip Hop fans that know the history, etc) and we created the narrative as opposed to exploitative channels like VH1, MTV, Noisey, etc. You already know that kind of space would bring in the national AND international tourism... Japan, Germany, etc. would be all up in them asap lol.

That being said, it's only a few neighborhoods with enough material to make that venture really worthwhile. What neighborhood(s) do you think would be worth building Hip Hop museums in?

To be clear I'm talking about neighborhoods as opposed to cities, districts, boroughs, etc... i.e. don't name South Central, name the neighborhood in South Central that made the biggest contribution to the culture. If somebody was really gon build a museum somewhere you'd need to advertise it and a big part of marketing a museum like that is the "mecca" factor.

Given that I'm most familiar with the Bay Area scene in terms of the history I'd say these spots could definitely support a museum:

Fillmore, San Francisco
Country Club Crest, Vallejo
East Oakland

On East Oakland, it's interesting because there's a couple Hip Hop spaces already there (the Hiero Compound for one) but nothing as formal as a museum. That could potentially be a HUGE draw locally and a space that has the potential to have longevity... Too $hort's early memorabilia alone would be enough to draw people in and when you add the rest of the history up... :whew: I'm surprised nobody made it happen already.
