It’s the line to separate MD from PA, as originally the border for MD went up to Philly and PA was upset that they wouldn’t have a harbor city and MD already has one in Baltimore. So they did they mason dixon to accurately mark where PA ends and MD begins, has nothing to do with the Civil War
