He may very well have invested $500,000 but more than likely not all at once or not all at the 2013 valuation. Most likely kept reinvesting over the years. Either way, Nas comeback story is incredible. One of the biggest names in VC, whose company is one of the earliest investors in Coinbase, is a Nas stan and friend.

I know people hate Vlad but I think I saw once in an interview that MC Serch of 3rd Bass said that Nas was always good financially from the beginning.

Nas is basically the black Andreessen Horowitz at this point.
He will likely be a billionaire in due time (if not already). It's interesting the paths he took to this kind of wealth vs the path Jay-Z took of leveraging branding. Nas is getting the same kind of money without all the hoopla or having to publicly attach his name to every move he's making
