I get what you're saying. Hip hop is definitely very American, and you have to understand American life to truly get it. Which takes either living or traveling to the US extensively.

It's a tough argument to buy that non-American Blacks are total outsiders because
a) the guy who created this culture you love was an immigrant.
b) The reality is that Black Americans are influenced by other non-American Blacks, and vice versa. In fact, the brilliance of hip hop is that it connects in weird ways to things all Black people like or at least recognize.
c) When we arrive in the US, we're still treated like nikkas. White people don't make the distinction between African and African-American.
