In my opinion his career is split in 2.
It's like Illmatic and it was written plus nas is like is the first act and everything after is the second.
Some good tracks, some great, but nothing that sounds like them.

The drop off is nothing like what happened to prodigy during murda muzik
Or maybe it's not a drop off, just something different at the same level

Anybody else think that as well?

The afrocentric asian, Half man half amazing, thoughts are physical i can express through song delete stress like motrin then extend strong, drink moet wit medusa give her shot guns in hell from da, spliff that i lift and inhale. It aint hard to tell.

Same way for me. Only its like

Illmatic + it was written was part one. And almost everything after that was :trash:. He had a few gems but fell off overall.

illmatic was its own era. the proof is in nas creating an alter ego nas escobar for the it was written and the firm era. he himself designed a new persona for a new era.

illmatic was the final act of that pre illmatic demo tapes era when nas was still a young kool g rap clone

it was written was a whole new era and included i am and nastradamus. the style of beats and rhymes on all three of those albums are all similar. illmatic was a completely different sound from them. a lot more dark and jazzy. much more tragic sounding music.

stillmatic was also nothing like it was written/i am/nastradamus.... different beat style... less east coast sounding for one thing.... no more grimy cold piano loops etc... i had felt that on stillmatic his voice also changed from the one he used on it was written/i am/ nastradmus... a little less cold and raspy

You lot that act like he made trash after IWW to today kill me

Act like the Stillmatic-Lost Tapes-God Son era wasn't heat and same with the Life is Good era. At the very least.

One could argue he was at his most fire during the 2001-2003. Lyrically 94-96 was more stronger but artist wise that era felt like its own thing. And again 2011-2013 he sounded rejuvenated lyrically and you sense that on tracks like Nasty and Triple Beam Dreams

I agree. Not close to illmatic, because although cringeworthy, naS had improved in the basic tenets of writing. He was no longer just rapping about non-sense incoherently... the songs were just garbo.

Lets take a song like "Undying Love" fukkin great storytelling track...

Vivid story telling, flow was tight... production was crisp and clean... hook was kinda ass, but thats okay...

and compare it to "One Love" bland corny production... generic storytelling, not vivid or descriptive at all... hook is trash. Poor command of his voice (he was usin it wrong)

Really, compare these two examples of story telling. One is infinitely better than the other...
