So I was just reading an article about Nas (From January this year) and it says unlike other rappers who have had multiple platinum albums nas never had a platinum single but still managed to get 7 of his 10 albums to go platinum. That's pretty impressive.

He's the GOAT, but I don't see how that in particular is impressive (the no plat single thing)...platinum singles are just another measure/accolade of success...i never got the whole "so and so did such and such...without a big single :krs:" angle...like if you're approaching things from a sales-centric point of view, big singles generate money just like album sales do...and prolly more than people think...a platinum single is banking money from people buying the song and from the publishing money incurred every single time it's played on the radio

In Nas' case...I think he'd have a couple of platinum singles if his commercial peak were a lil later...If I Ruled the World and Hate Me Now for sure would have went platinum in the I-Tunes era

In an effort to keep the Nas v Jay threads to a minimum, Nas is the better poet/artist and Jay is the better technician/rhymer...

What's the tiebreaker? How do you determine who is the better overall rapper?

Going platinum 7 times is arguably more impressive than selling 7 million on one album...The fact that he was an introvert for the majority of his career makes it even more impressive...Who knows where he would have been if he was out shaking hands and kissing babies his whole career...

I love how Steve Stoute always brakes this down. When most artist don't reach the pinnacle of hip hop commercial success or success outside of music, they say I could've but didn't want to:nawnikka: Nas doesn't have to say it,he has others vouching for him; :ahh: And Mr. Champagne bottles isn't his only co-signer:naswon:

The one with more classic albums and whoever won the head to head beef.
One of them successfully proved the other one lost already:jawalrus:

I always feel like him being such a sh1tty actor and picking a terrible script for his only major motion picture starring role was a gift and a curse..He could have parlayed himself into being a Pac, Cube, Latifah type mega star but his music catalogue would have suffered...Also if one of his business ventures would have exploded and he succeeded as a mogul it would have made him apathetic and uninspired..So its kind of good for the fans that he only really has ambitions to make great music...Everything else was always secondary... You can't say that about a lot of his peers...

To me its impressive from the longevity stand point. To do it 7 times with no huge radio singles, which are like commercials/promo for the album, and also because I just assumed he had to have a few atleast. Article also says hes only second to Jay z for number of solo Platinum albums (not overall sales) and tied with snoop lion at the 7 Platinum Album mark. Had NO CLUE snoop has 7 Platinum albums?
