I'm conflicted here

I'm conflicted hereon one end I'm glad they had enough decency to stand against something like this (THEY
are trying to bring back vagrancy laws. If you know you know) but at the same time... damn... so you're just gonna march and literally go home??? Seems like a good opportunity to form a group that actually builds housing for the homeless, similar to Habitat For Humanity. I used to protest heavy in my mid 20s and realized quick that it should always be a platform to organize something better.
Being homeless isnt illegal, sleeping in public parks is. There's a slight difference. How they going to know who is homeless or not? I’ve actually slept by the road on a highway in Tennessee, during a road trip.
i mean the law is there now so i'm thinking in terms of response and prevention. marching ain't gonna change that. The problem is that doing that lets the city/government off the hook and incentivizes them to do nothing or pass similar laws that essentially kicks the can down the road. There are times when this is what they are hoping will happen, then the same politicians who let others fix their problem, those politicians will use the success to get themselves re-elected.
I'm not saying it is a bad idea but this is one result of that action unfortunately. People have to be dead set on getting the stuff built and getting the politicians out of office at the same time, the latter which requires a lot of money sometimes.
I agree that building stuff is more useful. I'm just saying some politicians do this kind of stuff in hopes of people cleaning their mess or pleasing their benefactors. If anything, they don't like it when people march since they see it as a public disturbance and possibly disrupting businesses, which comes back to bite them in the ass. I'm just saying it can be a catch-22.i mean the law is there now so i'm thinking in terms of response and prevention. marching ain't gonna change that.
I feel you. Marches always die down though. People forget, move on, get lazyI agree that building stuff is more useful. Of course gentrification is everywhere but Nashville is white folks Atlanta. They are putting the final touches on removing the "undesirables".
Yall dont even want know what they did with the school system here.
They're reviving The Black CodesHow does that law make any sense? Do we have the bill written out?If you want to provide housing, just do so, going about jailing them and slapping a felony on them is both paying for their housing and making it such that they are less likely to be employed in the future, thus further paying for their housing.
