I use about 8-10 (cac) skincare products day/night depending on how tired I am / how my skin feels but I also have super dry skin and I'm very serious about not looking age 50 at 30. Not quite on the level of that lady who refused to smile but close enough. I could talk about skincare all day.
Cac products are fine. If your skin is dried out it just means you're using the wrong products. Anyway, you need a basic cleanser with a pH of 5.5-6 so it won't dry out your skin. I suggest Cerave foaming cleanser if you're oily. If you have dryer skin I would recommend Cerave hydrating cleanser. Or your could use the oil cleansing method.
Cleansing is the hardest part for dry skin. If you have that down, then it's just a matter of making sure you seal in the moisture into your skin with a good cream. Any cream that has a nice mix of humectants and occlusives is fine and it doesn't have to be expensive. Look for ingredients like squalane/squalene, ceramides, and especially urea. Vaseline is a good cheap occlusive to make sure you don't lose moisture but I prefer to use facial oils after a cream. If you would like to even out your skintone or deal with acne, learn about chemical exfoliation and find a gentle AHA (evening tone) and BHA (improving texture/acne).
For hair, avoid shampoos with sulfates. Shampoo your hair less often, Use conditioner every time you get your hair wet, and use a leave in conditioner and oil. It's pretty straightforward.
If you decide to use oils/"natural"/preservative-free products make sure you pay close attention to when those things expire. Most oils have an expiry of a 1 year or 2 but some turn rancid in as early as 3-6 months. That can be accelerated by extreme temperatures (so don't keep them in your bathroom).
